Great Moments In Unlicensed Pittsburgh Sports Merch: Two Tickets To Pittsburgh Paradise

Thanks to Alexis for this. And this is the first Great Moments… post with the new PSAMPcast feature, so she gets a shoutout in text and voice forms. That should be incentive enough to get the rest of you to send in your unlicensed pieces, no?

Since 2009 was a banner year for Pittsburgh sports, unlicensed vendors went off with a number of generic dual Super Bowl/Stanley Cup championship shirts. With the Steelers and Penguins hoisting trophies and the demand for team gear skyrocketing, you can bet a high number of those fans weren’t shopping for merch at the official team stores.

There was this reversible Steelers and Penguins hat.  And more importantly, there was this shirt commemorating the two 09 championships. I only say “more importantly” because it’s like both that one and this one used the same template for any unlicensed shirt in the event some city wins 2 major sports trophies. Get your catchphrase out there while each team is represented on the sides of the front image.

And Alexis points us to the images of the two tickets on the front of the shirt. In place of the section, row and seat numbers are the jersey numbers of some of the biggest performers on each team. The Steelers ticket shows Polamalu, Ward and Roethlisberger:

The Penguins ticket shows Fleury, Malkin and Crosby.

And just like that On Ice Or Grass… shirt, there’s no mention of the Steelers or Penguins anywhere. Sure, the gate for each is noted as S or P, and the football and puck have PITTSBURGH written across the front, but you gotta use your imagination to pretend this is anything but unlicensed.

If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
