Great Moments In Unlicensed Pittsburgh Sports Merch: Cleveland Browns’ Strategy

Thanks to Steve for this. He says:

Nothing like taking shots at a hapless rival. The Annual Cleveland Browns Strategy.

Man, I love this shirt. I don’t care how awful the Browns, or if the Ravens are a more competitive rival these days, I still hate the Browns. A lot. Much of it has to do with growing up in Pittsburgh and learning the historical hate. And that stuff never dies.

I pick on the Browns as much as possible. This shirt and I would get along if it was anthropomorphic and/or had feelings. One of my favorite blogging stories is that just weeks after starting PSAMP in early 2007, I started a second blog that still only has one post. It was an anti-Browns blog and post, and much like this shirt, I made my own list. QUOTE TIME:

After Miami passed on Quinn for Tedd Ginn Jr. at number 9, Quinn could be seen mouthing the now-famous phrase, “That was surprising.” I guess Cleveland felt bad for not taking the kid at number 3, instead opting for Joe Thomas. They traded up and took Quinn at an Aaron Rodgers-like 22. As a Pittsburgh sports fan, watching rivals make huge mistakes always pleases me. Some Cleveland Browns’ brass said:

that if the Browns are truly going to turn everything around, April 28, 2007 will be a day that’s forever highlighted in Browns history.’

Wow. Highlight the word “if.” Let’s look at the Brown’s recent 1st round draft history:

2004: Kellen Winslow, TE from Miami – Whiny bitch.
2005: Braylon Edwards, WR from Michigan – Any team’s 2nd best wide receiver.
2006: Kamerion Wimbley, DE from Florida StateCould
be nasty.
2007: Joe Thomas, OT from Wisconsin – Actually a good pick.
2007: Brady Quinn, QB from Notre Dame – Some competition for Charlie Frye in the “Mediocre QB Department.”

Great way to “turn around” the franchise. The last QB Cleveland took in the first round was Tim Couch. He’s no longer in football.”

It’s unbelievable how much this shirt and my predictions mimic real life. Step 6 on the shirt is the only real “kick ’em while they’re down” step, since they’ve only moved once. But everything else is pretty dead-on. And with my list, only Joe Thomas remains in Cleveland, and that was easily their best pick out of this bunch.

So with the Browns game this Sunday, it’s only right to bust out the Cleveland hate all over again. I mean, they did actually beat us last year. So wear this shirt if you own it.

If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
