Great Moments In Unlicensed Pittsburgh Sports Merch: Tripsburgh

tripsburgh

I first saw this shirt via This Is Getting Old. It’s an homage to the late Pirate Dock Ellis. This is from the good people at NoMas-NY.

And I gotta say, this is one of the best unlicensed Pittsburgh sports shirts I’ve ever seen. It pays tribute to the infamous no-hitter Ellis threw while high on LSD. So instead of PITTSBURGH, you get TRIPSBURGH.

While the catchphrase is clever, it’s the back of the shirt that makes it. In place of the name, it shows Ellis’ last name and first initial. And if you say Ellis D. out loud, it sounds remarkably like LSD. Try it again if you haven’t heard it yet. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

This is easily the best tribute to Ellis’ no-hitter. You know the MLB and Pirates official shop wouldn’t have anything this closely related to a drug-induced accomplishment, so much respect to NoMas. They saw the massive amount of support for Ellis’ feat in the time since his death, and gave the public an unlicensed piece that would make Dock proud.

Now…here’s me buying one.

If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
