This post originally ran in late August 2009, during the very beginning of the Great Moments feature. Jaromir Jagr is expected to make a decision today on which team he will play for next season. The Pens are in the mix and there is no guarantee that they’ll sign him. But I love him anyway and am an optimistic chap, so whatever. I’ve updated old info below. – ed.

I’ve had this shirt since about 1991…probably right after the first Cup win. I know for a fact it came from the World of Values in Norwin Hills Shopping Center, and it commemorates Jaromir Jagr’s emergence as the sidekick to superstar Mario Lemieux. The last names aren’t used, as that would violate some license laws or something, but you don’t need last names when the first names consist of the exact same letters. There were several incarnations of this shirt in the early 90s in Pittsburgh, and it quickly became a quick fact to impress your friends with.

As I said, I got this in 1991, and still have it 18 [now 20 years…boosh! – ed.] years later. It was huge on me as a kid, and is now like second skin if I try to put it on. However, the last two times I’ve worn it, once in this past season [2008-09 season – ed.] and once in the 07-08 playoffs, we lost both games. So now it rarely comes out [that’ll change if Double J signs in Pittsburgh – ed.].

If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
