Pittsburgh Panthers Preview vs. Georgia Tech

The Pittsburgh Panthers will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this Saturday at Heinz Field in what could be an essential elimination game for the ACC Coastal Division title. Pittsburgh is favored by a mere three points in the game for what should be a very compelling game. Currently, the average price for Pittsburgh Panthers tickets is just $44, according to Barrys Tickets, so there’s cheap tickets to be had for fans looking to catch the game live.

The Panthers are coming off a 21-16 victory over Virginia Tech, though they had previously lost three consecutive games prior. Nonetheless, only one of those games was against an ACC foe so they are currently at 2-1 in the conference and tied with Duke and Virginia atop the Coastal Division of the ACC.

Pittsburgh is led by sophomore quarterback Chad Voytik who has tossed nine touchdowns against six interceptions thus far this season. With a young player at the helm, they’ve need to lean on their running backs and James Conner has certainly taken that in stride. The sophomore has rushed for 959 yards this year (including 214 in the second game of the year at Boston College) and eleven touchdowns. However, he’s been held under 100 rushing yards in the past three games and did not score in the two losses. If he can find the end zone, Pitt has a strong chance of winning.

Georgia Tech is coming off two straight losses to Duke and North Carolina where they gave up a combined 79 points. The Yellow Jackets will need to be much tighter on defense if they want to pull out the victory in Pittsburgh. Currently at 2-2 in the conference, another loss would probably end their chances as being the Coast Division representative in the ACC Conference Championship game.

Georgia Tech is built off of their running game, led by Justin Thomas and Zach Laskey. The two have combined for over 1,200 yards rushing on the year and eight touchdowns, averaging well over 5.0 yards per carry. This is a game that will be won in the trenches as both teams lean on their running games and whichever line can provide the most wiggle room will most likely be victorious.
