As a website operator, you gotta be able to track how people find your stuff. That way, you can see what people are Googling to find your site, or if someone sweet is linking to you. It's just part of the game.

Lately, I've seen people using a search engine called Bing with more frequency. I have no clue what it is or who runs it, but I do know that Bing sucks.

I went to their search engine homepage, and did a search for "Pittsburgh Sports and Mini Ponies." Naturally, because I'm self-serving. What popped up was the image you see at the top of this post.

For whatever reason, my original blogspot page, which hasn't been updated since early February, is the first result. Now, since I've switched to a new server/platform/software, I can accept that a newer search engine like Bing would take a bit to recognize that the old page isn't the most recent. But then, under the name of the blogspot page is a list of what appears to be highly-discussed topics from said page.

"June?" "January?" "Chris Kemoeatu?" "Rick Reilly?" Those are probably the LEAST discussed topics in PSAMP history. But my favorite has to be the inclusion of "On Meth." I use that phrase whenever James Harrison plays out of his mind (a LOT in the past 2 seasons), and Bing rightfully recognizes that fact.

However, that gets negated by "Chris Kemoeatu." That's just wrong.

*SEMI UPDATE* (can't comment on my own site, so this goes here) Hogs states that, "Bing is Microsoft's answer to Google. Rumor is they spent a crapload of money promoting it and not so much actually developing it."

So it's the search engine version of Vista? BURN.

The DMCA is really open for exploitation, which is the reason why google is going to continue to degrade.. Bing is just as vulnerable, though overall inferior and cluttered. Supporting Bing is to support an attitude towards consumers that is unfriendly and condescending, to say the least.

I love, love, love your screen shot of your Bing-search with your exclaimation marks. I tried using Bing and found it crazy-lame. It didn't even pull up my site when I entered the name. So, pulled up Google, and entered 'Bing Sucks' into the search box and found much more relevant info. Like your site. Thanks for the laugh.

I tried to search on "evony" to find out more about a new online game by that name. Bing presented me with links to Ebony magazine...wtf. Google's top link took me right to the EVONY web site.

I've recently seen the Bing ads running in Chicago, and knowing that it's P.C.Gates sofware, I had a hunch it would have issues; just like a certain mail program will throw important customer e-mails into my Junk Folder. So I took the shortcut, I just Googled "bing sucks" and got my answer very quickly.

I totally agree. On google.com when you type in "videography las vegas" we (Shaw Productions) comes up number one organically. But in Bing, that's another story. They have other companies coming up way ahead of us even though we are very well known in our town. So that leads me to believe that it would be typical of other things I would search for... so ... back to google for me.

I searched myself (my internet handle) on bing and one of the results was an "invalid myspace ID" even though I signed up for myspace again a few weeks ago. Doesn't really seem to up to date. The results differed on google which just found the multiple websites, some of which are somewhat popular websites, where I had signed up for users accounts.
Bing seems a bit out of date when compared to google.
Their ads claim "the first ever decision engine" What is it deciding on?
I think bing was maybe built more so to help the people who aren't very good at utilizing search engines.
Of course, I'm sure Microsoft applied their usual money formula to the equation. r&dx5=$$ to spend advertising

They advertise it as a "decision engine". Well, frankly, I don't need one of those, whatever it is supposed to do- I make my own decisions.

I suppose that's one of the things that I hate most about Microsoft, 'Wouldn't you like to take some of those icons off of the desktop? I mean, we realize that you set them up and everything, but wouldn't it be better for YOU if you took off those icons that you don't use? Hmm? Please?' That's not what I wanted to do, or I would have done it, right? Go figure. Now, they get the bright idea of changing the name of their search engine to a goofy sounding word (could they possibly think that's what people like about google?), and talking me into thinking that they'll make decisions for me? Great, they're just getting more brilliant all the time.

If only Microsoft and the US Federal government could join forces, then we would have the absolute biggest failure ever!

I actually have this ongoing resentment with Microsoft, so today I was goofing around, nothing to do and went to bing.com and queried the first thing I could think of: "bing sucks"… and got me to your site, LOL.

I saw somewhere, I’m guessing CNET.com, that Microsoft allied with Yahoo! to borrow/develop their search engine (which I thought long before it had something to do with Google, but uh-uh, oh well…), after this deal expires Microsoft will keep the further developments made by Yahoo! to themselves and Yahoo! without the search engine, I don’t know what will Yahoo!’ll do next as their search engine will me rebranded as Bing.

Yeah, you are right. It is obvious that bing was just trying to outdo google. Microsoft tries to outdo everything..Vid games, mp3 players, prolly even toilets soon. The commercials were funny but they prolly just wanted to excuse to put out more commercials so they slapped together some stupid search engine so they could diss google and take over yet another part of the world.

My site is fairly well laid out and google has no trouble at all getting every page. And when I put in the noremal search queries, i coems right up in the first few listings. Not on Bing. For weeks! They know where my pages are, but 90% of the time you get a Best Buy page and there's nothing on my site that relates to best Buy. How sad!

Bing is just starting out, heck most of you that have used it did so on the beta version which was based largely on live search, just give it time, it has a lot of work to do to catch up with Google search algorithms but it will get there in the end with the money Microsoft has behind it.

The only real problem for bing is the lack of website indexing which is seriously annoying lots of people, many have waited months to have their websites indexed but to no avail as bing won’t index a new website unless it has hundreds of back links already in place, and even then it takes time, and don’t get me started on new pages either, this is really where bing sucks at the moment. They are behaving like the biggest cog out there but are turning people off their search engine already due to this indexing problem. They need to wake up to this pretty dam quickly.

I always knew Bing sucked, but I kept MSN as my homepage anyway because I liked to read the different news stories. But clicking a news story on the website today brought me to a page with very basic overviews and headlines of stories, and when you click on them.....well, you don't get the story. Instead, you get referred to Bing instead in order to search for info about the story!!!! MS must think we're all a bunch of idiots. Or, they want us to work harder for our news for some strange reason. maybe they hate us.

I actually left google for bing about 4-5 months ago. I like it better.

Go figure... After you use Bing for a while and then switch back to google for a bit. Google sucks.

Bings video and image search are better. Same goes for the default layout. It's just better.

You can't do a simple search in Bing. I enter an item that I want to search and I either get sponsored adds or other Bing Search engines that I i have to click and then re-enter. The results still dont come up!

This search engine is a poor excuse for anything, Google is, and will always be the best, I've never been shown poor results with it EVER, and i've never been dissapointed. Bing is crap! I'm not a big one for marketing and names and all that stuff so I couldn't really care about the name "Bing" In fact, it sounds ok to me... But I don't have a gripe with the glitzy naming or promotion, what I care about is what's under the bonnet... And quite frankly, it is garbage!

Every website I create get's instantly indexed in both Google and Yahoo, yet never gets indexed in Bing until I shout and scream in their community forums and Brett Yount manually adds it!

How do they expect to be successful with this type of activity... And all the forum experts say "focus on building quality backlinks" - bullshit! I'm not asking to be number one...I'm asking to be indexed... a process that Yahoo and Google have no problem doing...I will focus on backlinks in my efforts to be at the top of the SERPs but that is secondary to just being listed!

Think about it, a small business owner who is focussing energy on a website (growing numbers of businesses focussing efforts online)...
I have a website and Bing doesn't index it...
1. I'm never going to use Bing because it won't list my site
2. I'm never going to tell anyone else to use Bing because they wont find me there

They're shooting themselves in the foot by making getting listed so difficult!

There is clearly a major issue with their index and it either can't keep up or is very buggy...

Ya, bing really sucks. I am very new to blog world but, I know well about how to blog and get good rank in search engine. My blog www.crack-cricket.blogspot.com has good rank in google search engine(in first page) for the keywords I desired but, when I pust URL of my blog in bing it, is still not indexed.
Surely, bing cannot be compared to google and stastiscs shows it clearly, 10% of interenet users use bing whereas, 51% of the internet users use google in USA. Best part of google is that, it keeps good website with detail information in first page and incase of bing it just sucks.

Bing sucks.. I tried it because it is presented as different,more concise,less unwanted information than google.....just as every other marketing ploy has proven to be.... BULLPOOPIE !!Advertising has never changed. Present YOUR product in such a way as to convince everyone with at least a 1/4 of one active brain cell with a wallet to buy it. We finally got our website up. Google indexed all 140 pages in 24 hours. Yahoo recognized the home page in 12 hours. BING found nothing. So we submitted the site to Bing. A week later - still nothing.

If your search engine can't find what's new on the web every day - its not much use now is it!!!!
