Since when does Pittsburgh sports gear, unlicensed or official, come in the colors red, white and blue? Only when it references the Civic Arena-based movie, Sudden Death.
At Foley’s for Pens/Sens Game 3 last night, a few Pens fans came in with what might be the greatest purchase of all time. You can see my buddy Billy’s Penguins jersey in the bottom pic. They found this awesome hockey jersey in some Florida thrift store for like 4 bucks. To put things in perspective, at the first intermission, I bounced from Foley’s over to KFC to try that revolutionary Double Down sandwich where fried chicken replaces bread, and in Manhattan it ran me 6 and a half bucks.
Van Damme runs around the movie getting into all sorts of shenanigans…even as the Pens goalie at the end. But Sudden Death didn’t have the official rights to create Pens-themed Sudden Death hockey shirts, so you get the standard red, white and blue. And if they did end up using Black and Gold, it would look like a Johan Hedberg Van Damme jersey.
So while I was pretty pleased with my KFC purchase, I ended up with only the second best purchase that we all got to talk about at Foley’s.
If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
