Great Moments In Unlicensed Pittsburgh Sports Merch: UNLICENSED Steelers Polo

psampmerchfeature

Thanks to Bill for this. THIS IS AN UNLICENSED SHIRT, STEELERS ORGANIZATION! In case you couldn’t tell. Bill says:

The story behind this golf shirt is that a vendor who made unlicensed shirts was getting sued by the Steelers and the NFL and hired my dad as his attorney. He then made a bunch of these as a joke. I wear it from time to time.”

Man, this shirt is perfect for this feature. It honestly couldn’t get any more perfect. The shirt literally spells out why it should be included in the Great Moments library. We’ve seen innumerable tactics employed by generic vendors. Altered logos, city names in place of licensed team names and dumbed-down championship knockoffs. This one rips-off the official Steelers logo, but then there’s an embroidered sentence explaining that it’s unofficial.

Come to think of it, there should be more embroidered sentences on shirts. Every shirt at the official Steelers/NFL store should have a sentence saying that it’s officially-licensed, rather than those silly official league hologram stickers and stuff. Would definitely save a whole buncha frivolous lawsuits over time.

Some hippy could be walking around in a tie-dye shirt, and the embroidery across his chest mentions that This Is Not Even A Sports Shirt So Just Move Along so he knows he’s covered just in case.

If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
