Word came out today that Penguins star and league MVP Evgeni Malkin signed a lockout contract with his hometown KHL Metallurg Magnitogorsk, a team he has played for in the past. During his time with the team from 2003-06, Magnitogorsk was a part of the Russian Superleague, as the KHL was not yet formed.
Mike Wallace is a Steelers star wide receiver who has not yet signed his restricted free agent tender offered by the team, as he still wants a long-term deal. He’s supposed to report and sign his tender at some point this week. He’s missed all of training camp and offseason workouts, 3 of 4 preseason games, and probably won’t play in the final preseason game when he eventually does return.
What brings these two athletes together in this post? Well in English, the Metallurg Magnitogorsk nickname is the “Steelers.” See here:
So Geno, already committed to the Pens and putting a contingency plan in place in the very likely event of an NHL lockout, has officially signed with the Steelers before Mike Wallace, an actual Steeler. So then I made this in GIMP:
Which Steelers will Mike Wallace sign with first?
