This was a great time to start this feature at PSAMP. With the Stanley Cup win and the Super Bowl XLIII championship, the market is saturated with knockoff Pittsburgh sports shirts. And what kind of fan and blogger would I be if I didn’t bring them to your attention?
This shirt was worn by a friend at Foley’s, our Penguins bar, when we watched the unfortunate Steelers/Bengals loss there two games ago. It’s another Steelers Super Bowl XLIII shirt, without really being a Steelers Super Bowl XLIII shirt.
The Steelers helmet is famous for being the only lid in the NFL with a logo on only one side (the right side). And hey, if you use a Steelers helmet with the left side showing, then it isn’t really a Steelers helmet! Point, vendor.
Plus, here we go again with the words PITTSBURGH and CHAMPIONS (of the world, might I add), but no mention of the STEELERS or SUPER BOWL. Those latter two phrases were merely implied. And if you couldn’t get it through your dense skull, then there’s a crown perched atop the non-Steelers Steelers helmet to keep you notified.
I’ve heard of Steelers Nation, but never The Pittsburgh Nation. They’ve colored the United States to look like the gold stripes on the Steelers jersey, but hey, that’s not licensed, so we’re all good. And as was the case with plenty of the unlicensed shirts I’ve featured here, we have the Roman numerals of each CHAMPIONSHIP won by PITTSBURGH.
Also, you may have noticed the credit card in the picture. Said friend was making sure you knew he was supporting the team by getting an officially-licensed logo on his card, despite the lack of one on this ridiculous excuse for a commemorative Super Bowl XLIII shirt.
If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
