At Least One Pittsburgh Team Is Going To Lose E-mail

ESPY award nominees were announced today, and I pretty much care as little as I thought I would.

However, since Pittsburgh became the first city to claim both the NHL and NFL championships in the same year, that means the ESPY for Best Team will pit the Stanley Cup-winning Penguins against the Lombardi-hoisting Steelers. There's other nominees up for that award, but they aren't winning.

The ESPYs are pointless, but the 'Burgh-on-'Burgh violence that the outcome could cause might be catastrophic. A loss by either team (or both!) won't somehow make the championships themselves disappear, but in a town so devoted to their sports teams, bragging rights about the popularity of either club might start riots.

There may be some Pittsburgh nominees in other categories, but I really didn't care to look.

Super Bowl XLIII nominated for "Best Game"

Holmes' game winning TD in Super Bowl XLII nominated for "Best Play" against Ovechkin's goal in game 5 against the Rags. Holmes' catch won a championship, OV's goal didn't even advance them out of that round.

Disco Dan and Coach Tomlin are nominated for "Best Coach"

Harrison nominated for "Best NFL Player"

Crosby and Geno nominated for "Best NHL Player" against OV and Datsuck.

Some of these people need votes (Crosby/Malkin, Holmes over Ovechkin), so don't forget to vote!
Not to nitpick but...

Pittsburgh is the second team to with the Stanley Cup and NFL Championship in the same season. The Red Wings and Lions won each respective championship way back in 1953-54. But, technically we are the first and only city to do it in the Super Bowl Era when it really matters. Either way, our city is still awesome and the home of Champions...and the Pirates.
