Oh, Pittsburghese.
Any time you make a play on Pittsburgh’s “City of Champions” moniker, I have to smile because it reminds me of all we’re blessed with in our local sports world. We can’t even be too pissed at the Pirates because the Steelers and Pens have been killing it over the past however-many years.
And while it sucks that the Steelers had a down year in 2009, I’d still rather be a Steelers fan with all the recent success.
So thanks to Maria for sending this shirt in. Not only does it reference the City of Champions, but throws in the Pittsburghese “yinz.” There’s actually a mad amount of Champions = Champyinz shirts out there, but I don’t want to link to them all as I can easily use them for future posts. And remarkably, this one isn’t from Champyinz.
Maria said this about her new shirt:
“I got this t-shirt as a birthday present. Best birthday EVER. While it doesn’t try to fake any official logos, or use anyone’s name, I think it still amazes with its simplicity (and lack of quality).”
So it’s a standard t-shirt with no gaudy misdirections. Actually, that’s all I need in an unlicensed Pittsburgh sports shirt. If you’re a vendor without a license, just keep it simple. There’s no need to try and fake your potential customers into believing that they’re picking up official NFL/Steelers gear.
If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
