Thanks to my bud Penshead for this. He snapped this pic when he was back in Pittsburgh for the opening 2 games at Consol Energy Center.
There’s a lotta little generic stuff that make up this complete design. We got PITTSBURGH HOCKEY listed rather than the Pens. Actually, the PITTSBURGH HOCKEY name is repeated twice, once all big and another in the circular fake logo. A circular fake logo that somehow has a number 87 in it rather than a skating penguin. Except…I have no clue why 87 is shown when the whole basis of the shirt is that the PITTSBURGH HOCKEY team are THREE TIME CHAMPS. Much love to Sid, but he’s only got one Cup. Mario or Jagr or even Phil Bourque have more of a claim to be on this shirt.
The final bit is that it’s a blue tie-dyed shirt. Imagine if this blue was used for the Winter Classic. That new navy throwback doesn’t look so bad now.
