Great Moments In Unlicensed Pittsburgh Sports Merch: Double Up

psampmerchfeature

Thanks to Penshead for this. It’s another from his trip-to-Pittsburgh series. He also snapped some pics of some Pens shirts, but I’ve been purposefully staying away from posting Penguins stuff in the Great Moments feature. The loss is still too fresh.

As was the case with that other one from this set, this picture comes from down at the Smithfield Outlet on Forbes. And we get two for the price of one! A Great Moments first! We’ve only looked at individual pieces each time, so we’ll see if my brain explodes before I can finish this post.

On the left, we have an unlicensed shirt that any generic Irish Steelers fan would absolutely love. In place of the hypocycloids, there are shamrocks instead. That’s a common theme among unlicensed vendors…use some other image in place of the hypocycloids in order to <gob bluth>cirsumvent</gob bluth> the official licence of the logo. I’m not sure if it says Steelers where it normally would on the logo. I doubt it. Plus, I can only make out A BLESSING PITTSBURGH as the words around the globe/sphere. That might’ve helped?

In the middle, there’s one of those weird Franklin Black and Gold masks that started popping up in stadiums around the NFL within the past 10 years. You know, these ones. Only the one in the unlicensed shirt doesn’t have the officially-licensed logo on the forehead. The Smithfield Outlet is no Franklin sporting goods company when trying to gather licenses. I BLEED BLACK & GOLD alright, but I don’t bleed licenses. I don’t even know what that means.

Now if only the picture was slightly longer on the right side, we would’ve been able to see Heinz Field and had ourselves a generic trifecta! What could’ve been…

If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.

(thanks to Cotter for the banner pic)
