Great Moments In Unlicensed Pittsburgh Sports Merch: Penguins Championship Tickets

The Pens may have lost last night, but in going to Foley’s, our Penguins bar, I knew we would catch at least one unlicensed piece. And boy, were we right.

Pens fan Mike, who I haven’t seen since like last year’s playoffs, showed up for Game 1 with the shirt you see in the above picture. You know what? I’d probably wear this one. It’s not overly-tacky, and the level of customer deception is pretty low.

It does reference PITTSBURGH as CHAMPIONS in 1991, 1992 and 2009, even though we all know it was the officially-licensed PENGUINS and not the city who hoisted Lord Stanley in those years. There’s also an upside-down triangle in the back, evoking memories of the officially-licensed skating penguin logo. All-in-all, this vendor got the gist across in a rather simple fashion.

Now all we need is a 2010 ticket to make it even better. And if this shirt is to be trusted, it is up to the PITTSBURGH players on the ice to do what’s necessary to become CHAMPIONS again.

Go Pens Pittsburgh.

If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
