Paul McCartney Still Has That Penguins Sticker On His Guitar

Thanks to my friend Cara for spotting this. Paul McCartney was on the Jimmy Fallon show last Thursday, and used this guitar with Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings stickers on it.

McCartney performed "Here Today" with it in honor of his friend John Lennon. He typically only uses this guitar, a 1964 Epiphone Texan, for the song "Yesterday." The guitar has had a Red Wings logo on it for a while (likely 1976), as McCartney formed and performed in the band "Wings" in the 70s and 80s. He famously added the Pens logo in between his 2 sets at the CONSOL Energy Center a few months back. I thought maybe he only added it temporarily while he was in Pittsburgh…I mean "Wings" has a more personal tie with McCartney. But 4 months later and the Pens logo is still there.

Good form, Sir Paul. And makes my love of The Beatles that much more awesome and fitting.

Catch the performance here.

*UPDATE*

2 years later and Sir Paul performed at the 12/12/12 Concert for Hurricane Sandy Relief at Madison Square Garden in NYC. And the 64 Epiphone came out, complete with Pens sticker still intact. Great form, Sir Paul.
