Monday Morning Chrysler New Yorker

HE’S GOING FOR THE HORSE-COLLAR, LOOK OUT!

And here we are again. I just wanted to take a moment to welcome you all back to football, and the Steelers’ 2011 season. I had contemplated not doing the MMCNY this season, but I pretty much say that every year. This is the last real opinion-based segment at PSAMP, and I’ve come close to scrapping this in the past few years where I’ve switched to a mostly humor and absurdity-based style of content. There was a time in this site’s relative infancy when I used PSAMP as my own opinion and analysis outlet, but I’ve grown and gotten way annoyed with arguing. And yet MMCNY remains, as I try to keep my Steelers recaps as light and down-to-Earth as possible. So this is where we move forward.

35-7 Ravens. Oof.

It was clear the Ravens had this game in their sights since January. Mike Tomlin looked as frustrated as I’ve ever seen as head coach.

Ben: Pretty poor. 3 INTs and 2 fumbles is never good. It was just that bad of a game. 280 yards is nice and that TD to Manny Sanders was a thing of beauty but those are even silly to compliment when basically everything else went wrong. Hopefully the lowest point of Ben’s season. 1.5 of 5 motorcycle helmets.

Mendy: At one point he had I think 6 carries for 50 yards. Later on he was at 11 carries and 43 yards or something. He finished 12 for 45. I get that the fumble wasn’t entirely his fault, but he looked completely skittish when he got the ball in the following series. No confidence means no production. 2 of 5 motorcycle helmets.

Defense: Can I re-use that “hope it’s the lowest point of the season” line that I just used for Ben? They didn’t stop the Ravens at all. Flacco didn’t even get touched until it was way too late. People have been using the “too old” line for this defense after 1 game, but you;re stupid if you think guys like Woodley and Timmons will have nearly-invisible games like this one over the course of 16+games. History says otherwise. 2 of 5 helmets.

Me: I have Boldin and the Ravens D in fantasy. Both are on my bench. I’d do it again 100 times out of 100. 5 of 5 motorcycle helmets. I needed a positive.

Seattle at Heinz next week.No use looking at this Ravens game any more. Good to be back.
