Ok so yesterday we went back to look at Etsy and the horrors within. We came out of that experience with some unreal Steelers dog pajamas that were so awesome that now I want a pair. Today…we're gonna get a little sacrilegious.
That right there, via Ginny is a painting of Steelers safety Troy Polamalu as Jesus Christ on the Cross. I have no words, and the description, from "Surreal Pittsburgh Art," doesn't provide much more:
Sports stars have taken on the role of saints and martyrs in American culture. The painting measures 16" x 20" and is ready to hang on the wall.
Man, people wigged out back in '91 when R.E.M. had Jesus imagery in their "Losing My Religion" video. Or Madonna with her "Like a Prayer" video in '89. I cannot imagine how that same general public would've reacted to something like this in the '80s or '90s. Only back then, this painting would most likely replace Troy Polamalu with Reggie White.
And if we're gonna get picky, this cross has no INRI-type sign at the top. For Troy, it should be TPRS. That's a Latin joke.
