Might as well take a look at the officially unofficial 2010 Steelers training camp shirt since camp just broke on Friday.
As a St. Vincent alumni, I’d see these shirts for sale in the campus bookstore every year. Had I known that I’d be prominently featuring unlicensed sports shirts on a website several years down the road, I woulda stocked up with some of the past training camp shirts. I remember one that said something along the lines of “It All Starts Here” or something.
So I was pumped to grab a picture of this year’s version when we were at camp earlier in August. If you scope the text on the shirt, you’ll notice that St. Vincent employed several tactics that we’ve seen on countless generic shirts. The Steelers aren’t mentioned, but PITTSBURGH FOOTBALL is listed right up top. There’s 3 hypocycloids right under that, inside a 2010 TRAINING CAMP football to tie the city’s name, sport and ball used with at least a part of the logo. And to cap it off, this unnamed Pittsburgh football team is shown as the 6X WORLD CHAMPIONS, and only the Steelers can claim that.
That’s an all-around great effort by St. Vincent. They’ve been te official training camp site for eons and are handcuffed by not having an official license, so they did the most they could with what they’ve been given. If you read this shirt and think of any other team, you suck. That’s a perfectly-designed unlicensed Steelers shirt.
If you have any unlicensed Pittsburgh sports gear, or awesome generic sports gear from any team, send them to me and I’ll post them.
